Author’s Note: This video can also be found in my YouTube and in Alvin’s Substack.
Greetings,
The above is the video of my chat with
of . Alvin and I have been corresponding for a few months. Funnily enough, I happen to know his brother1 as we went to the same high school in Indonesia. However, Alvin himself was only able to find my Substack by chance2 when he was searching for Substack newsletters written by Indonesians. All in all, I had fun throughout the whole thing. And readers can expect to see more of these videos since we barely scratched the surface in this video.
That being said, there are things that I do want to talk about. Yes, I had to use my phone for this one. I don’t have the necessary equipment to be a “video content creator”3. Because of this, my voice in the video is not as crisp as those of podcasters or YouTubers people might be familiar with. Heck, it’s not even as crisp as Alvin’s. But again, I’m not a video content creator, nor do I plan to be one.
Some may also notice that my eyes often look up. The reason for this is that on the wall behind the phone, there’s a world map plastered. I found myself looking up to this map at times. This is most obvious when I was talking about various countries4; I would end up looking up at the map while I was talking. This is one of those things where I didn’t notice anything when I was doing it, only finding out when I watched the actual video.
Finally, I meandered at times throughout the video. I am more accustomed to getting my ideas across in writing instead of verbally. Speaking off-the-cuff is not my forte and I’m just glad that I didn’t make a fool out of myself5.
Regardless, I’m looking forward to the next one. And having learned from this experience, I know what I need to do when that day comes.
Until next time,
Michael P. Marpaung
Named Michael, funnily enough.
Events like these is why I don’t believe in chance or things happening at random, but I digress.
Or whatever the term is.
Like Indonesia or America.
I think.
