Welcome back,
This one’s going to be brief…
Unless you live under a rock, you’ve probaby heard of the latest war between Israel and Hamas. Once again, the flames of war have returned to the Holy Land1. While I do have my take on this situation, I’m not writing this blogpost to talk about that. So much (digital) ink had been spilled, and I don’t think I can say anything that hadn’t already been said2.
Instead, I want to bring into attention something that His Holiness Pope Francis put out last week on Twitter3:
Whatever you think of the current conflict in Israel, this gesture shows the importance of the Pope as a figure in the Christian world. Who else can make such an exhortation?
October 27th is this Friday, by the way. It might not be a bad idea to take up the Pope’s suggestion even if you’re not a Catholic. There’s power in prayer and fasting4. And at the risk of sounding like a hippy, it’s important to remember that peace is good. Don’t let anyone psyop you into thinking that war is somehow a good thing5. No. At best, war is a necessary evil.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
Matthew 5:9 (NCB)
Until next time,
Michael P. Marpaung
Did they even leave in the first place?
