Welcome to My Personal Blog!

Formerly known as Indonesian in America, Indonesian and American is the personal blog of Michael P. Marpaung, Catholic writer of fiction and nonfiction.

What is this all about?

As I said, I am a writer. Like most writers, I have my thoughts on a lot of things. This personal blog serves as the place where I can write the things that I wouldn’t be able to in my fiction-based Substack. As someone who is both Indonesian and American, my writings come from a perspective that most wouldn’t have.

In addition to all this, this blog also serves as the home to my photography-based works:

So please check out my blog!

While you’re at it, also check out my works of fiction at Germanicus Publishing:

Post Schedule

Indonesian and American aims to post at least once a month. Readers can expect a new post every month on Tuesdays.

Before you go…

Here are what readers have to say about my works:

Your article … deeply resonated with me. Even though I am now currently living and working in Indonesia, I constantly have this urge to express myself in English (hence why I started my Substack 2 months ago). I find that it just provides me with a much more colorful way of expressing myself.

on Losing My Language

Perhaps the most nuanced article/response I have read in response to my nation-state and identities article.

on What’s in a Nationality

Young man with a great vision … please do more in podcast.

This is a nice writing with true history, easy to understand … I honor you, Michael Marpaung.
